Owner & Spin Instructor
“Powered by pedals, playlists, and positivity”
“Together We Rise”
Hi, I’m Sarah!
I grew up in Bradford and moved to Kane with my husband in 2014. Together we’re raising three wonderful kids who keep life busy and full of adventure!Like many people, I spent years trying to find a fitness routine that I could truly stick with. Although I’d been Spinning off and on for the past 10 years, it wasn’t until I started riding regularly at Empower Fitness that I fell in love with it. Two years ago I bought my own bike, and over the past year and a half I’ve made indoor cycling a consistent part of my life.
That consistency changed more than just my fitness, it gave me confidence, helped me become healthier, and showed me that small steps every day lead to big changes over time. Those experiences inspired me to turn a dream into reality by opening Rise Active Studio.
My hope is that every person who walks through our doors feels welcome, supported, and empowered, no matter where they are on their fitness journey. Whether you’re looking to get stronger, improve your health, challenge yourself, or simply have fun, my goal is to make every ride motivating, encouraging, and filled with great music.
I truly believe we’re stronger together, and I can’t wait to help you,
Rise Above Yesterday.

Val McKinney
Spin Instructor
“Spinning is my outlet”
Hi, I’m Valorie, but most people call me Val! I grew up in Port Allegany and moved to Kane with my husband in 2010. We have two daughters who keep us busy!
You may know me from teaching Spinning at Balanced Body Group Fitness or Empower Fitness. I became a certified Spinning instructor in 2017 after getting back into cycling following the birth of my first daughter.
Even though teaching was outside my comfort zone, I quickly fell in love with it. I enjoy creating fun, upbeat classes with great music that help people feel stronger and more confident. My favorite part is encouraging others, challenging them to do their best and having fun together.
I hope to see you in class!

"Life's a cycle, just keep pedaling" (:
Hi, I’m Payge!
I grew up in Smethport and just recently moved to Mt. Jewett with my husband in 2025. We have two wonderful kids who keep life busy, crazy and full of adventure!
My fitness journey in life has always been entailed to running. After surgery and multiple knee issues I decided to find something easier on me, my knees, and also build my knees. Then I heard about spinning which i started 2-3 years ago through Empower Fitness. I instantly fell in love with it. I eventually bought my own bike, and over the past year made indoor cycling a part of my fitness journey along with my love for hiking and roller skating.
Cycling became a fun part my fitness, built my confidence, helped me physically and mentally, and showed me that sometimes one small step can help make a lot of big changes and show ourselves we are much more capable than we believe.
I decided then to believe in myself and become a spinning instructor this year. My goal is to have fun together, enjoy the ride, move to the beat of the music and to help others know you are much more capable than you believe.
Let's ride together, learn together, challenge each other, and enjoy this journey together. One spin at a time!
Hope to see you in class!
